Day 7- The Day of Rest

Sabbath. The day of rest. God set the precedent on the seventh day of creation.  The english word comes from the Hebrew shabbat meaning "to cease" or "desist".  The Sabbath is mentioned many times in the old testament. It is the fourth of the ten commandments.  Exodus gives rules for following the Sabbath in Chapter 35. Verses 2 says,  "Six days work shall be done, but on the seventh day you shall have a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the LORD. Whoever does any work on it shall be put to death." It says that anyone who works on the Sabbath day shall be put to death. Think about it... how many days of rest (most commonly Sundays) do you spend working? How often do you take a day of rest?  Once again, I am just as guilty of this as everyone else. I put off til Sunday homework or something else that has to get done before Monday when it would be just as easy to do it on Saturday.  When Jesus died on the cross for my sins and yours, he fulfilled the la

My Favorite Type of Movie

So last night as I was working on my math homework I was watching movies on Netflix. I love the fact that I can watch movies instantly on my computer. I was watching some "romantic" movies, just good, clean romantic movies.  Romantic comedies are probably my favorite thing to watch, even though the same thing happens in all of them. To a point, I think that is the reason I like them so much- I know that I am not going to be disappointed.  Well as I was watching these movies, I started thinking about the best love of all time, that is, the love that God has for His people. And the fact that He loves us so much that He gave up His Son, to die a horrible death on a cross to pay the price for our sins.  This got me thinking. If we can sit for hours and watch movies that we know what the ending will be, why can't we stand up and speak up about the best love of all, God's love? I'm just as guilty of this as everyone else.  The bible tells us that, "F

Sew Cute

So I decided last night a little after 8:00 that I wanted to start a project that has been sitting in my room for a few weeks. So Mom and I started my project. I wanted to make a skirt, but I didn't have a pattern.  We started by setting the sewing machine up. Then we got all our supplies out.  You might be asking yourself what the tape measure is for. Well... I couldn't find the sewing measuring tape, so I had to borrow one from my dad to figure out what length the cut the fabric. And Mom showed me how to use the cool little cutty thing, which could be very dangerous. Next, we took turns sewing the fabric pieces together. I got to sew the elastic band together. How many hands does it take to sew it together? Four. Well, three because one was holding the camera. Then we realized that we put the elastic on the wrong side. So we had to re-do it. And Mom figured out which way it was supposed to go. And here is the finished project.  It didn't turn out exac

Love at First Sight

So you probably think I'm going to talk about whether I think love at first sight can happen. I'm not.  I want to talk about a story from my favorite book, God's Word. In His Word, there is a story about a woman who is sent to save her people from destruction.  Hadassah was a Jewish orphan who was taken in by her cousin. She is described as having "a beautiful figure and was lovely to look at." (Esther 2:7) When the king gave an edict to gather all the young women in Susa, Hadassah was also gathered. Because her cousin had commanded her, she did not tell the people in the palace about her Jewish heritage. (Esther 2:10) This was why she was called Esther.  The young women were being brought to the king night after night. When it came to be Esther's night to visit the king, instead of asking for a lot of jewelry and gold to wear, she wore only what the king's eunuch advised her to wear. This caused Esther to find favor in the eyes of all the people

Daily Readings

Yesterday morning I had a really hard time getting up for school. As part of what I do every morning, I sit down for a few minutes to spend time talking to God and reading His Word. After I read my devotional, I started reading Exodus. Well, as I was sitting there, I had a really hard time concentrating and soon I caught myself dosing off. Because of that, I had run out of time to read my bible. I decided that I would just save it for last night. As I was reading in Mark last night, a verse really caught my attention: "And going a little farther, he fell on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. And he said, 'Abba, Father, all things are possible for you. Remove this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will.'" Mark 14:35-36 In the hardest moments in Jesus' life, He turned to His Father in heaven. He cried out to God, praying that He would not have to do what God had planned for Him. Here's the catch, He d

First Post!

First, I would like to mention that I am very new to blogging.  Second, I want to mention the most important part of my life. Jesus Christ is the Savior and Lord of my life. I am trying to find my way in this crazy, messed up world. I am trying to life my life the biblical way, living for Christ every day. I believe the bible is the best guide to life that is offered to us. I hope that through this blog I will be able to share my struggles, hopes, dreams, and insights that God shares with me.  Thirdly, I want to tell a little about myself. I am a senior in high school, but I am also a dual enrollment student at the local community college. I have one brother, who is married to my best friend, and my parents are still married after twenty two years. I have two very sweet and loving puppy dogs, named Sparky and Maggie. I am very thankful that I have my family still together. My friends are very precious to me. Although I have only known them for a year and a half, I am very clos
