The Strength of Prayer

Prayer is such an awesome avenue that God gave us to communicate with Him. It is such a powerful way for Christ followers to show God's love to the people around them.

God has really been laying prayer on my heart these last couple of weeks. Even before a wonderful lady from church gave me a tea light holder that reminds me to pray without ceasing, God had been working on my heart, telling me to pray more, to lift people up to Him on a more regular and deeper basis. These last couple of day especially God has been calling me to pray. He has been laying people on my heart throughout each day for me to pray for. I am so glad that He is working in me this way. I just pray He will continue.

I thought because of how God has been working in my heart that I would post some scripture about prayer. I hope God speaks to you. :)

And the foreigners who join themselves to the LORD, to minister to him, to love the name of the LORD, and to be his servants, everyone who keeps the Sabbath and does not profane it, and holds fast to my covenant-- those I will bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer; their burnt offerings and their sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house will be called a house of prayer for all peoples. Isaiah 56:6-7 ESV (emphasis added)

Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be known to God. Philippians 4:6 ESV

And the prayer of faith will save one who is sick, and the LORD will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working. James 5:15-16 ESV (emphasis added)

And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Matthew 6:5-7 ESV

Pray constantly. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 ESV (emphasis added)

But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. Matthew 5:44 ESV

These are just a few of the verses that speak about prayer. I hope you were blessed.

Living the Life

A couple months ago I was wearing a t-shirt that my mom got me at a Beth Moore conference we attended last year.  If you are not familiar with Beth Moore, her ministry is called Living Proof Ministries.  The t-shirt said, "I'm living proof." I had someone come up to me and ask what it said.  Then she asked what I was living proof of. Her question threw me off guard. What am I living proof of? I stammered out an answer.  Something along the lines of, "I'm living proof of God working in my life." That answer was not necessarily wrong. But as a mature Christian, why did I not have an answered prepared?  I knew what the shirt said.  I should have been ready to answer such a question.   As Christians, we wear certain things, such as our "Christian" t-shirts, or we act certain ways or do certain things, like praying before we eat.  We should be ready to give a reason for any of these things at any moment. The bible tells us to, " p...

Waiting- Acts 1:1-14

We wait for so many things in this life. We wait for birthdays, Christmas, driver's licenses, high school graduation, college graduation, marriage, kids, retirement. As Christians, there is another very important event that we hope and wait for: The return of Christ Jesus our Lord.  One part of Scripture that tells us about His return is Acts 1 (we will focus on verses 1-14). Verse 11 specifically tells us that Jesus will return in the same way He left.  Acts 1:10-11 - "And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, and said, 'Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.'" While we wait, God has given us the Holy Spirit to guide us. When we become Christians, the Holy Spirit comes to dwell in us, to lead us and guide us through life here on earth. To be baptized with the Holy Spirit (verse 5...

"The Lord is here…"

I was reading about a missionary in Guatemala earlier. This missionary was telling a story about a time when they were building a church in the town they were working in. The building was set to start at nine in the morning. When the missionary arrived at 10, she asked the pastor if he was there working alone. Listen to the pastor's reply: "'Oh no,' he replied with a laugh, 'the Lord is here with me.'" How profound. How simple. How true. Thanks for reading. In God, Emily
