Hope for the Future

This afternoon, Matt and I had the pleasure of watching my twin nieces for a couple hours.  What a blessing!

I picked them up when I got off work, and we made a quick run through Sonic for some $0.50 corn dogs (Matt and the girls love them!)  Easy dinner for the win!

As we came to the house, we sat down around our table and enjoyed a meal together.  I didn't even have to get onto the girls that much, which was a nice change of pace.

After dinner, the girls colored at the table as Matt and I caught up on our day.

We then spent some time reading to the girls some of the children's books that we have stashed away for our little ones in the future.  We even have an entire collection of books from Matt's childhood!

The part of the evening that gives me the most hope is this:

I watched my husband sit on the couch with two curly-headed four year olds and read them stories.

I saw a glimpse of the daddy that he is going to get to be someday.

And I loved every second of it.

I see my sweet husband caring for our nieces and nephew, and I love the little glimpse I get of how he will be with our children.

I know it isn't always going to be easy.  I know there will be hard days and days that one or both of us will want to pull our hair out.  I know we will disagree sometimes about how to handle certain situations.

But tonight, tonight I have hope for our future.

As we begin this crazy, scary adoption journey, we ask for your prayers.

If you feel God leading you to donate, please visit paypal.me/GrowingOurVillage and help us to grow our family into a family of three.

Thanks for reading.

In God,
Emily

"I See You"

A lot has happened in the last few months.  I may post more of an update on that later, but, for your information, we picked up our daughter right before Thanksgiving. As our daughter has grown, my husband has found a sure way to make her giggle that adorable little laugh.    EVERY TIME.    He looks at her and simply says, “I see you!”    I love to hear that little giggle.    It could go on for days.    Matt looks at her and says it.    She giggles.    He pulls back and then leans in again.    He repeats the words.    She giggles.    As I was thinking and contemplating this the other day, it came to me.    That is what every little girl wants – to be seen by her daddy. How true this is for every child of God as well.    We want to know that we are seen by God.  What better way to love someone than by letting them know that they are SEEN. ...

Living the Life

A couple months ago I was wearing a t-shirt that my mom got me at a Beth Moore conference we attended last year.  If you are not familiar with Beth Moore, her ministry is called Living Proof Ministries.  The t-shirt said, "I'm living proof." I had someone come up to me and ask what it said.  Then she asked what I was living proof of. Her question threw me off guard. What am I living proof of? I stammered out an answer.  Something along the lines of, "I'm living proof of God working in my life." That answer was not necessarily wrong. But as a mature Christian, why did I not have an answered prepared?  I knew what the shirt said.  I should have been ready to answer such a question.   As Christians, we wear certain things, such as our "Christian" t-shirts, or we act certain ways or do certain things, like praying before we eat.  We should be ready to give a reason for any of these things at any moment. The bible tells us to, " p...

Waiting through the Night

I'm going through a bible study with a couple of friends.  This bible study led us to Exodus 14, which is where God leads Moses to part the Red Sea for the Israelites to flee from the Egyptians. I love how the Holy Spirit works and draws out different parts of the scriptures at different times in our lives.  Before I began studying, I prayed that God would show me something, that He would meet me right there in His Word. Exodus 14:15-31 (ESV, emphasis mine) 15 The Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to me? Tell the people of Israel to go forward. 16     Lift up your staff, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it, that the people of Israel    may go through the sea on dry ground. 17 And I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians so that           they shall go in after them, and I will get glory over Pharaoh and all his host, his chariots, and his           horsemen. ...
